All in the Masque

Hello Betsus, long time no blog.

Earlier this year I had the pleasure of watching the theatre production of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Phantom of the Opera! As much as I would LOVE to give my review of the amazing show, amazing actors, amazing opera singer and amazing lightings… I would rather discuss the one thing that stuck with me ‘til this day: the masque.

Masquerades started somewhat in the 1700s and today they still exist, but with a little more of a modern twist. Back then the focus was more on the ball gowns rather than the masks, whereas today, the focus is all on the mask!!!! Vogue threw a bal masque for their 90^th anniversary, where countless icons and celebrities showed the world how a bal masque is done:

The fashion industry also plays around with the mask idea in some photo shoots as it adds a mysterious and sensual characteristic to the model. Vogue Paris blessed us with their Bal Masque October 2010 issue, showcasing beautiful modern day masks with cutting edge photography.

 

 

I would most certainly love to be a part of this trend one day...wouldn't you?

21st Rage: Mandy B

It is FINALLY the month that brings joy to the entire world!!!!! DECEMBER BABY! Among all the usual traditions of this month (partying, eating, shopping, decorating), reminiscing about the past months starts to begin! What were the great moments, the bad moments, the epic moments and the unbelievable moments! I have had the most interesting and dramatic 2012! So did a good friend of mine, Amanda Barret, or as I call her: Mandisa! Lol.

This special lady turned 21 this year, and like her personality, the celebration was elegant, fun and stylish! Unfortunately I was not there to witness this, but she assured me that she had a great time and I assured her that this great time HAD to be on my blog! As the pictures I have will show, it is evident that Mandy is super fashionable and so is her family and lovely friends!

The birthday girl decided to rock a light colour-block look (somebody has been reading my tips ;-P lol) by wearing a stunning blue dress, orange belt and pink/peach heels! Her friends, equally dashing, kept the style going by wearing cute cocktail dresses and heels that look rather uncomfortable (but hey, beauty is pain!). Anyway, let me not bore you, here are some more pics of Mandy's 21st lunch:

 

The setting, family and friends, and cake all seemed to be in perfect sense! I am sure that is an irreplaceable memory for Mandisa that made 2012 special! Hope you all had one of those memories this year, if not, well, that’s what December is for right?
