21st Rage

2012 young generation always finds the best, worst, and sometimes random reasons to go out with your loved ones and friends and have an awesome time! Breakfast, lunch, dinner, sport games, sit-ins, clubbing, bowling, you name it, we have all probably done it all!!!!!! In a generation so filled with life and passion, turning the most boring nights into memories is as easy as the blink of an eye! Therefore we do it, because we can! The most common reason to do anything and go anywhere these days is to celebrate a birthday. Naturally, birthdays are important and have been for many years now, but the evolution of HOW it is celebrated I find most fascinating! Sure the traditional family gathering, with cakes and presents still exists, but the new trend to celebrate your birthday with friends is simply this: Fashion, Company and a shot of Rum! But this routine does not suffice for THE birthday of all birthdays, no, not sweet sixteen (where you prove that there is really nothing SWEET about you), nor the lovely eighteen (where things you have been doing illegally are done out in the open to prove a point!), but the coming of age, and adulthood: the 21st Birthday.

It is a night where the young declare themselves mature! It is when the “young adult” is given the Key to Adulthood. Sometimes, by certain tradition, they are given an actual Key that signifies their independence. Why would one NOT want to go all out for this day, or night, or even the entire weekend?!
You are probably wondering why I would bring up this topic and you are probably assuming that I just recently had my 21st party. Well, you are wrong; my time will come next year! This year, however, was the year where 99% of my friends dreamed, planned, and partied up a storm with class, elegance and 6-inch heels!

21st Princesses: Selloana Molefi and Reitumetse Russell

I might have not attended all of these beautiful ladies’ events, but I made it my mission to show the world how it is done! Tables booked, formality a must, cocktails all around, champagne for the classy touch and a box of Cartier jewellery to sweeten the deal!
Let’s not forget to mention the absolute fashionable sense that was put into these Birthday looks! With those outfits, hair, make-up, and nails, anyone who was there would have spotted from a mile away who the Birthday Lady was!

TAKE NOTE: Selloane demonstrates the absolute beauty of colour blocking perfectly below:

Stay tuned for other 21st bashes that will leave you with some bright ideas! If you think this was it, it’s just the beginning! These Gorgeous Friends of mine sure know how to CELEBRATE!
Maybe you might get and idea or two on how to celebrate your big day;-)!

The Rock 'n Roll Way of Living

If it was ever a time to be expressive it is now, the century that grows to embrace uniqueness every single day! Just a few decades ago, conventionalism was key. Today, we want to display all the characteristics that make us unique to the world! We want to make it known that we are irreplaceable! It is the rage to be unique now, because the world is more accepting of it now! Naturally this acceptance came due to the courage of a few! Celebrities such as Beyonce, Tyra Banks, Kim Kardashian and Salma Hayek make “bootylicious” ladies more comfortable in their curves. Lady Gaga, Nicky Minaj and Rihanna continue to bend and break fashion rules, letting woman wear whatever they want! Countless of today’s celebrities are being praised for the “new” idea of being different and loving it.

However, the individual who is properly educated would know that we are giving credit where credit is NOT due! Sure most of today’s celebrities come out and give everybody the courage to be different and weird, but what about the group of stars who have repeatedly challenged the image perceptions of the world? What about Rock Stars? Yes, ROCK STARS.

Now this has absolutely nothing to do with you like/dislike of the rock music genre. I am talking about the singers behind this genre. Have you looked at rock stars, like properly look at them? What do you see? There is obviously a lot to see! Most of them dress weirdly, they talk weirdly, and they sing weirdly...they are just weird. What strikes me as fascinating is this utterly true unappreciated fact: they do not care about the world’s opinion of them. They do not care! Since rock music and rock stars originated in the 1950s they did not care, and they still do not care! You see rockers like Steven Tyler being interviewed or performing and you just suddenly feel the urge to be different! You look at Lenny Kravitz wearing leather boot-pants and you think “wow, he is crazy” and yet, you love it! You witness the concrete wall of confidence each and every rock star has and you immediately aspire to have that wall too. Why give today’s celebrities the credit when rock stars have been preaching, “BE YOU!” since the 1950s?

I respect them! I love them, simply because they stand for individualism....and because rock music is awesome, lol!

Gold to Platinum

My friend and fellow blogger, who happens to be a closet poet decided to add to her extensive list of skills by becoming a makeup artist! Mpho first started this as a hobby, then she became so good at it, varsity students started paying her to do their make up! I decided to be the camera, recording the process of turning an Ugly Duckling to a Beautiful Swan.

Now, as you may notice, the model used here (Reitumetse Russell) is not an ugly duckling! So the expression best used would be: turning a Golden to Platinum. This metaphor was inspired Mpho Tshabalala, yep, she is good with words too! Lol! I have decided to take a before pic, and an after pic, and all the nit and grits in between! “This make up look is?” I asked Mpho, and she stared blankly at me with no answer! And that, ladies and gentlemen, is what happens when you haven’t really been schooled! *those are her words, not mine*.

Seriously, it is a simple, natural look with light smokey eyes and a tint of pink gloss! Since this is not a magazine, I am not obliged to give you a tutorial on how to have this look! If you want it.....GOOGLE it! (The magic of the internet)!

This post just goes to prove that with a lot of practise, one can become an expert in anything!!!!!!

So, time for the fun part: I will be adding a gadget that will be showing the before and after pics of every make up experiment Mpho tries! Check it out on the right, it is called “aimeras ton visage” which is “love your face” in French!

Enjoy!
