Big in Japan

As the Martin Solveig song would go: "s-t-a-r - that’s what you are, 'cause you big in Japan, you big in Japan", Japanese couture fashion would want you to be big in Japan! Think Big, Bold, Colourful and most of all, ARTISTIC! Instead of boring you with all the details, I will just let the pictures do the talking! Sit back, and let your eyes enjoy!

You want to see more? Don’t worry! Will be bringing you more as much as I can!

British-Only Style Gene: The Actors

Is it possible for a whole nationality to be fashionable? My answer is: Yes! It took me quite a while to realise this, but when a friend remarked on how a British actor (Orlando Bloom) is quite fashionable it suddenly hit me. I have never seen a British celebrity who is NOT fashionable. Never. I’m not just talking about actors and singers, but the whole lot! Actors, singers, songwriters, musicians, football players, directors, etc. I am pretty sure the common man who works in a store down the street in London is also quite fashionable, but for now, I cannot prove that assumption. So I’m just going to stick to the celebs! Ladies: be ready to be bombarded with a lot of fashion and hotness!!!!!
Let me start with the oh-so-obvious actors and the under-the-radar actors of the UK:
As mentioned before Orlando Bloom sure knows how to dress! He keeps things simple though: jean, shirt, shoes/sneakers and the occasional accessories (beanies, necklaces, rings, bracelets...). And when he has to suit-up for the red carpet, he does it with style!

My next actor isn’t that well known (unfortunately), but whoever has seen Rock ‘n Rolla will never forget the actor who played the infamous character: Johnny!

Yes, ladies, I am talking about Toby Kebbell! First time I saw this man behind the camera was in the behind the scenes of the rather awesome movie Prince of Persia! All I noticed was the most interesting leather jacket I have ever seen on a man! Searched high and low for the pic, but could not find it, so next time you see Behind the Scenes: Prince of Persia on the programme, do you a favour and WATCH IT! Toby, as you can see, loves to wear leather jackets and leather jackets suit him! So I am not complaining! And when he needs to suit-up he looks absolutely classy: either rocking a three-piece suit, or a classic tuxedo!

My next actor is known for rocking suits in the series Gossip Girl! He is the hottie that has every girl squirming, “Oh! Chuck!” I have always wondered if he dresses so well (and with the same confidence) in real life too. After much looking, I can deliberate that Ed Westwick has fashion sense! His fashion sense is of a unique nature though! He will go with the conventional t-shirt and jean look, and finish it off with a pair of peculiar looking loafers. I found it so weird, given that I’m used to watching him wear suits 24/7! Something else I found remarkable was his “colourful” nature! He always makes sure something is popping out, or “not-fitting-in” in his outfits! Absolutely nothing like Chuck hey.

The upcoming bad boy of Britain and a man I personally am a HUGE fan of, Alex Pettyfer, is nothing short of fashionable! Always keeping it simple and stylish! ALWAYS looking fine as hell!

Out with the young, in with the old! My next actor is rather “matured” and quite the dark chocolate! Idris Elba is British, ladies, in case there was any confusion on that matter! He also happens to be a stylish British man! He will always be rocking the old-school style and looking quite dapper in the suits too!

My last actor was named Best Dressed of all British men! One of my favourite actors and the current James Bond: Daniel Craig! Undoubtedly suits are his forte, ALL SUITS! Fashionable casual wear seems to be his second nature! These given pictures are proof that he deserves the Best Dressed title! If you are not convinced, please do some in-depth research of your own! I am deeply satisfied and proud of this man’s fashion sense!

Obviously there are MANY more British actors out there, but if I were to show them all this post would turn into a novel. So here are some random pics of other British actors who get it right!

Looking for a man with fashion sense? You now know where to go...

Double the Effort, Twice the Spoils!

I am young, ambitious, and my dreams keep getting bigger and bigger. Everyday I look for some inspiration and people to look up to in terms of my career! My recent discovery was the Olsen Twins.
Now, don’t get me wrong, these ladies have been around the block for years, but I have never given them a second thought! Then I found out the very stylish label, the Row is owned by them! At the current age of 25 years, these twins have achieved way more than the average 25-year-old! Don’t believe me? Check out these fun facts:

·         The  Olsens joined the ranks of the wealthiest women in the entertainment industry at a young age with an estimated net worth of US$100 million

·         Their names and likenesses extended to clothes, books, fragrances, magazines, movies and posters, with a market share made up mostly of the tween demographic.

·         Mattel also produced Mary-Kate and Ashley fashion dolls from 2000 to 2005.

·         The sisters became co-presidents of Dualstar on their 18th birthday in 2004.Upon taking control of the company, Mary-Kate and Ashley made moves to secure the future of the company by releasing products that appealed to the teen market, including home decoration and fragrances. The Dualstar brand has been sold in more than 3,000 stores in the United States and over 5,300 stores worldwide.

·         As the sisters have matured, there has been greater interest in their fashion choices, with the New York Times declaring Mary-Kate a fashion icon for pioneering her signature (and now popular among celebrities and fans alike) "homeless" look

·         The look consists of oversized sunglasses, boots, loose sweaters, and flowing skirts, with an aesthetic of mixing high-end and low-end pieces.

·         The twins were tapped as the faces of upscale fashion line Badgley Mischka in 2006.

·         The Olsens have a clothing line for girls ages 4-14 in Wal-Mart stores across North America, as well as a beauty line called "Mary-Kate and Ashley: Real fashion for real girls".

·         The Olsens have also launched their own couture fashion label, "The Row", named after Savile Row in London.

·         In 2007, they launched Elizabeth & James, a contemporary collection inspired by many of their unique vintage finds and pieces in their personal wardrobes. They have also released a women's clothing line for J.C. Penney, called Olsenboye, and a t-shirt line called "StyleMint".

·         In 2008, the sisters published the book Influence, a compilation of interviews with many of the most prominent people in the field of fashion.

They are actresses, fashion designers, and writers. What is there NOT to love about these ladies? “Take over the world” seems to be the mantra these ladies live by! It would be wise to try it too!

Say it with me, “Take over the world. Take over the world. Take over the world. Take over the world...”

Lots of Love!

Black Ballerina and Green Swan Trash!

Hello my dear Betsus! Given my extended break from blogging I would not be surprised if I have no more readers...however this beautiful month, I vow to make up for my inconsistency and to keep to my post-a-day promise J! So my second post for October is of a ‘trashy’ nature...
Making one trash dress was never going to be the end of it. Thanks to a good friend of mine, who keeps bringing these recycled-rubbish-dress clients to me, I had yet another task involving rubbish! This time, since I’ve already done two before, I was more than excited to be involved in it. So I got to designing, and as usual, the outcome was not the same as the original design (which is not a good thing...or bad). Here is the first dress I made for Katherine who was competing in a beauty pageant. Unfortunately she didn’t win.

Katherine's Trash dress

After I had sent the picture of my mannequin wearing the trash dress, my other good friend (the make-up artist Mpho) showed to it to another prospect client. She wanted to go all out with the dress, bags, and accessories and shoes all made out of trash! This was another excitement, even though University had already drained every ounce of my energy and creativity, I got through it with some help from Mpho, Karaoke, Wine gums...and a glass of white wine.

Me and my design

SJ wore her dress for the Enviropaedia/SABC 3 CarbonFree Gala Dinner and snatched a prize for best dressedJ! Also landed an interview with Top Billing! How does this dress made by me manage to be so damn beautiful? Toilet paper, paper, green paper, plastic bags, wrapping paper and a lot of cello tape and staples!

Second Left: SJ and her friends at the event

TAKE NOTE: this is the second dress I made from scratch in one day, due to the first not being so attractive. Quite proud of how I handled myself under the pressure!
One thing that I’ve learned through this experience, is that your early success really only comes from your loved ones. They acknowledge and appreciate your talent, and market you to every possible person they can find! Where I would be without those two?  Probably...BROKE! Lol!
And ofcourse...hard work pays well!
Hope you love the dresses, will be making more!
