Black Ballerina and Green Swan Trash!

Hello my dear Betsus! Given my extended break from blogging I would not be surprised if I have no more readers...however this beautiful month, I vow to make up for my inconsistency and to keep to my post-a-day promise J! So my second post for October is of a ‘trashy’ nature...
Making one trash dress was never going to be the end of it. Thanks to a good friend of mine, who keeps bringing these recycled-rubbish-dress clients to me, I had yet another task involving rubbish! This time, since I’ve already done two before, I was more than excited to be involved in it. So I got to designing, and as usual, the outcome was not the same as the original design (which is not a good thing...or bad). Here is the first dress I made for Katherine who was competing in a beauty pageant. Unfortunately she didn’t win.

Katherine's Trash dress

After I had sent the picture of my mannequin wearing the trash dress, my other good friend (the make-up artist Mpho) showed to it to another prospect client. She wanted to go all out with the dress, bags, and accessories and shoes all made out of trash! This was another excitement, even though University had already drained every ounce of my energy and creativity, I got through it with some help from Mpho, Karaoke, Wine gums...and a glass of white wine.

Me and my design

SJ wore her dress for the Enviropaedia/SABC 3 CarbonFree Gala Dinner and snatched a prize for best dressedJ! Also landed an interview with Top Billing! How does this dress made by me manage to be so damn beautiful? Toilet paper, paper, green paper, plastic bags, wrapping paper and a lot of cello tape and staples!

TAKE NOTE: this is the second dress I made from scratch in one day, due to the first not being so attractive. Quite proud of how I handled myself under the pressure!
One thing that I’ve learned through this experience, is that your early success really only comes from your loved ones. They acknowledge and appreciate your talent, and market you to every possible person they can find! Where I would be without those two?  Probably...BROKE! Lol!
And ofcourse...hard work pays well!
Hope you love the dresses, will be making more!
