BLOCK the Colour Blocking!!!!!!

Okay, so this subject I am VERY passionate about! As usual, a trend comes out, and as usual, every Jane, Beth and Sally (errbody) makes it a mission to follow that trend in the most optimal way possible! No problem. However, with colour block it has become a MAJOR problem! This is mainly because people do not understand how to do it correctly! I just think it is about that time SOMEONE clarifies this. Luckily I stumbled across a whole article about the art of colour blocking from makeupandbeauty.com and I agreed with everything Naina wrote, so much so that I am just going to quote her!

The Technique:

Color block fashion is one of the hottest new trends for the season. It combines the use of two or more blocks of colour in an ensemble. This could be for a top, bottom, tunic, a dress and even a handbag or shoes. Simply it means – creating an outfit by putting areas or blocks of solid color next to each other. It can include monotone, bright colours, muted colors, contrasting and complimentary colors. Clothes, shoes, handbags and accessories can all feature color block designs or can make up different blocks of color to be put together for a color block outfit.” (http://makeupandbeauty.com/color-blocking-fashiontrend-alert/)

Please note the words contrasting, complimentary, monotone, muted, bright colours!  Anyway, here are a few examples:

The Rules:
“Since they often involve the use of bright colours or many different colours together, it is easy to go wrong with it. The best way to pair colour block trends whether it’s for shoes, a tunic or a top is with other basic colours such as black, white, brown and gray. This way your colour block will pop out more and look more polished.
Do not combine more than three to four colors. It’s not that it doesn’t look nice, but it looks very ‘ramp’ish. Moreover more colors will keep cutting your body shape here and there making it a not so beautiful sight.
Never ever ever combine two color blocked items. This is the worst thing to do to this trend.(http://makeupandbeauty.com/color-blocking-fashiontrend-alert/)

Also take note of how EASY it can be to mess things up and end up looking like a mess!!!!! Brace yourselves for this epic disaster:

Now if fashion designers get it wrong sometimes, can you even begin to imagine the horror I see here at varsity? If not, don’t worry, will be getting pics soon…my eyes cannot be the only ones suffering!
