I just love the idea of jumping into an interesting project; however I tend to lose interest and all my projects end up incomplete. Beginning of this year, I made a resolution to finish whatever it is I started! So far I am keeping to this resolution. One of my most interesting projects was my “Chicago Dreamgirls” project!
For this I was required to design and make six dresses for a city resident play at UFS. The theme of the play was Chicago: Mzansi style! It was a wonderful play and I had the opportunity to be a part of it! ANYWAY, I designed the six dresses keeping in mind the theme. I also decided to make them colourful...every showgirl needs to have an eye-blinding outfit right?
After a week of mistakes, corrections sweat and me cursing at my sewing machine, I was finally done! Simple glamour was accomplished! All through sequenced material and string material for the two main ladies! It was quite the challenge! String material is not fun to work with, but the end result is quite amazing!
To add a bit of SA flavour, the girls ended up wearing black sneakers with their dresses instead of the usual accessory: heels. This was quite funky and unexpected!
To cut the long story short: I made six simple dresses that I am proud of.....not too mention the fact that these six dresses made me some much needed and wanted money! Lol!
